Instead of moving fallen leaves to dumping grounds, environmental workers burn them on the street, turning Hanoi’s roads into fields after the harvest season.

A worker from the Thanh Cong Environment Enterprise said: “Leaves are falling too much. We have just swept the pavement and the road, and they are immediately covered with leaves”.

Workers piled up fallen leaves to burn, leaving smoke and ash.

Passers-by felt uncomfortable with this measure. “Burning leaves make smoke and dust on the street. I can’t see the road. It is better if workers pile up leaves into a big pile and burn it. But they pile up leaves into small piles and burn them”.

Some people said that burning leaves on street is dangerous for travelers, in case burning leaves are blown off by the wind.

VietNamNet shoots some photos of burning leaves:

Workers left fires at each tree.

Each tree is a fire.

Is Hanoi green, clean and beautiful with these fires?
