Strange houses in Vietnam’s most northern province

VietNamNet Bridge – Two-story, clay-made houses which are hundreds of years old, are unique architectural works of Nung ethnic minority people in Ha Giang province.
There are several clay-made houses in Lan Ma village in Coc Pai town, Xin Man district, Ha Giang province. The houses belong to only one family. They were built hundreds of years ago, along with the increase of family members.
The houses were made using a special type of clay, which is called “trinh” clay, with bamboo frameworks. After hundreds of years, the 40cm thick walls have become solid and they are as hard as stone.
The leader of this small village is Mr. Ly Quay Chung, 76. Chung and his family have been living here for hundreds of years.
Clay-made houses are traditional houses of the Nung people. However, they don’t build clay-houses nowadays. The houses in Coc Pai are rare clay-made houses left today.
VietNamNet captures clay-made houses in Coc Pai:
All houses are built on tottery positions.
The gate.
The main house.
The kitchen and warehouse.
The wall is around 40cm thick.
Nung women were drying cattle dung.
