During the Ramanda month, Cham people in the southern province of An Giang gather at mosques in their villages to review their behaviors.
A mosque of Cham people in An Giang, where Ramanda veterinarian service is organized annually.
In the afternoon, villagers grouped up to prepare the veterinarian hour, which will be held at a big house or at their mosque. They don’t drink wine or beer. Cham kids play in the drawing-room to wait for the veterinarian hour.
Ramanda is the chance for Cham people, both men and women from five years old upwards, to review their wrong and right acts in each day of the last year, to make good in the new year.
Bowls are placed on the floor, waiting for cooking.
Those who work and live far from home all return to their village this time. Cham people consider Ramanda as the happiest days in the year. All families prepare food and specialties to entertain guests.
Their traditional cuisines for feasts are cari and capua.
Those who can group up at the mosque can take food home.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It lasts 29 to 30 days. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and sexual relations from dawn until sunset. Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility, and spirituality. It is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of God and to offer more prayer than usual.
