A Vietnamese-Singaporean joint venture will start work in Ho Chi Minh City this Thursday on what it says will be one of the most technologically advanced medical zones in Southeast Asia.

The 37-hectare zone, located in Binh Tan District, will include a 1,750 bed hospital, a medical school, a laboratory, a research center and an office building, a retail center for medical devices, a 36-floor residential building for medical experts and a 25-floor building for relatives of patients.

In addition, the zone will include a health club, a three-star hotel, a conference center, a park and an international primary school.

The first stage of the project, worth a total investment of US$400 million excluding medical equipment, will come online in 2011, according to project investors Hoa Lam Services Co. and Singapore-based Shangri-La Health Care Investment Pte. Ltd.
