Emergency rooms in hospitals nationwide admitted nearly 28,000 patients over the first three days of the Lunar New Year this week, the Ministry of Health said Friday.

Nearly 15,400 of the emergency cases from Monday to Wednesday were caused by traffic accidents, the ministry said, compiling reports from 21 hospitals and 42 healthcare facilities nationwide.

The total number of people who died at hospitals in the three days exceeded 300, the ministry said, adding 125 of these were in traffic accidents, 17.8 percent less than the same period last year.

The ministry also noted that no more cases of bird flu had been reported over the first three days of the Year of the Buffalo from January 26-29.
