The Drug Administration of Vietnam said it had not permitted the importation and sale of a Chinese diabetes drug “Tang Zhi Ning Jiao Nang.”

The comment came after China banned the use of the drug following the deaths on January 17 and 19 of two patients who took the drug in the remote northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The deadly drug was illegally using the “Tang Zhi Ning Jiao Nang” brand originally owned by the Guangxi Pingnan Pharmaceutical Co., according to Chinese media.

In the wake of the Chinese drug scandal, Vietnam’s pharmaceutical authorities called for increased monitoring of drug sales and use across Vietnam.
