A one-year-old boy was saved after a doctor and a medical student donated blood for the baby’s operation, Hue city Central Hospital said Monday.

The operation on Nguyen Quang Loc Tai, who has O+ blood, was urgent and the hospital had run out of its reserves of the blood type. The baby’s mother has the same blood type but was unable to give blood having recently given birth.

Dr. Tran Xuan Phu of the OdontoStomatology Department and a trainee medical student, who both have O+ blood, decided to donate their blood to save Tai.

Previously, Tai, from Thuy Thanh Commune in Thua Thien-Hue Province, fell and split his upper lip. Doctors said the operation was necessary as the boy suffers from hemophilia.

Tai is fine now and has been released from the hospital.
