A Vietnamese national in transit has been quarantined at a South Korean airport after showing symptoms of influenza A (H1N1), also known as swine flu, health officials said Monday.

“A 22-year-old Vietnamese woman has been isolated at Incheon International Airport,” a health ministry spokesman said, adding she was a transit passenger returning home after a trip to the US.

She arrived Sunday aboard a South Korean plane with 209 people aboard, including 93 transit passengers, he said.

“Health officials are testing her blood samples while tracking down other passengers,” he said.

South Korea has reported three confirmed cases of the A (H1N1) influenza virus.

South Korea has stepped up its inspections of inbound travelers. It has announced plans to stockpile enough Tamiflu and other anti-influenza drugs to treat five million people, twice the number at present.

It carries out rapid tests on inbound travelers who are suffering from fever or symptoms of respiratory illness.
