Four cooking safety and hygiene inspectorates will conduct more detailed investigations on milk, alcohol and soft drinks in 12 cities and provinces beginning on Wednesday.

Nguyen Cong Khan, head of the Food Safety and Hygiene Department under the Health Ministry, said this is the first time inspectors will trace the products back to their manufacturers, distributors and importers.

In this round of inspections that run until the end of November, the officers will also trace products back to the agencies that granted the licenses for manufacture, import and sales, Khan said.

The administration conducted a milk quality investigation in April and May uncovering products that didn’t meet nutritional requirements.
