Several more violations of Vietnam’s drug laws have been discovered in drug advertisements across the country, according to the latest report from the Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV).

Head of the DAV, Truong Quoc Cuong, said most violations involved pharmaceutical companies advertising products without registering first with the administration, and companies failing to advertise products as agreed.

He cited many pharmaceutical companies which had shown unregistered ads on television, while other ads had been disguised in the print media as PR articles or “thank you” letters.

In addition, many companies were found running misleading ads, especially about certain cookings which are often promoted as drugs, according to the DAV.

The administration added that many people become seriously ill each year after taking advertised drugs without consulting a physician.

The DAV reported that last year, 36 advertising violations were found nationwide, compared to 32 cases in 2007, and 29 in 2006.
