Japanese woman detected with swine flu in Can Tho

A Japanese woman in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has tested positive for the H1N1 influenza A virus, a medical officer said on Friday night.

The city’s first swine flu patient is in the isolation ward of Can Tho Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Hospital, Can Tho Preventive Health Center director Nguyen Trung Nghia said.

Earlier the same day, Ho Chi Minh City’s health department reported the virus had been found at two more schools, and that 38 more people had been diagnosed with H1N1.

In adjacent Tay Ninh Province, five students at one school have tested positive for swine flu, while in Hue city on the central coast, 18 infected students of Nguyen Hue High School have been placed in quarantine.

So far Vietnam has recorded 2,412 cases of H1N1 in 44 of its 63 provinces and cities, including the 100 new cases on Friday, the Ministry of Health said.
