Health authorities in the southern province of Binh Duong Sunday confirmed the influenza A (H1N1) infection of a medical worker but not before she had come into contact with several dozen people.

The provincial’s Department of Health said the employee had shown the flu’s symptoms since last Tuesday and had since come into physical contact with about 70 colleagues at Binh Duong General Hospital’s Emergency Department and dozens of others at her residence.

The Ministry of Health on Sunday reported 43 new cases of the flu nationwide, 27 of them in the south, eight in the north, two in the central region and six in the Central Highlands.

The new cases raised the country’s total to 1,158 cases with one death, while 635 patients have fully recovered.

Nguyen Tran Hien, head of the National Hygiene and Epidemiology Institute said latest tests showed that the H1N1 strain in Vietnam had not mutated.
