Vietnam plans flu medicine for children as H1N1 spreads further

A student is having a medical check-up at Quoc Van Sai Gon High School in Ho Chi Minh City Wednesday.

The Ministry of Health announced Wednesday it would soon start producing Tamiflu, the drug that is being used to treat influenza A, in suitable doses for child patients.

Speaking at a meeting of the Steering Committee on the H1N1 flu in Hanoi, Ly Ngoc Kinh, head of the Medical Treatment Department under the Ministry of Health, said the ministry has opened training sessions for health officials to operate clinics nationwide for the flu, as the influenza A (H1N1) virus is also known.

The nation recorded 101 new A(H1N1) cases Wednesday including 82 in the south, five in the north, six in the central and eight in the Central Highlands regions, raising the total to 1,676 cases with two deaths.

As of Wednesday, 1,073 patients had been discharged from hospital.

The flu spread to three more schools in Ho Chi Minh City Wednesday.

The fourth flu clinic was established at the Hoa Binh High School in Tan Binh District where 41 students have been isolated, three among them having tested positive for the virus.

In Duy Tan High School in District 10, 18 students were isolated for treatment as they showed flu symptoms.

Meanwhile, more than 10 students of Lam Son High School in District 6 were being treated after displaying flu symptoms.

In Quoc Van Sai Gon School, where the third treatment clinic was established on Tuesday, the total number of students quarantined rose to 52 Wednesday.

Kien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta on Wednesday recorded four new cases in two primary schools, raising the tally in the province to 15.

Also on Wednesday, Dong Nai Province recorded three new infections taking its total to 78.

Meanwhile, Binh Duong Province on Wednesday confirmed six more infections including four workers at the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park and two high school students. These patients raised the province’s tally to 30 cases.
