VinaPhone offers electronic payments VinaPhone’s customers can pay for their bills anywhere through a MoMo electronic wallet instead of having to use a MaxSim128K. Payments are made via the www.payment.momo.vn website. MoMo electronic wallet is mobile banking that averts the need for cash payments. In the future, VinaPhone will introduce more applications for the service to meet demand for electronic payments for the 30,000 customers now using the MoMo electronic wallet. Intel helps spread computer presence Intel Viet Nam has handed over 20 computers together with 40 electric syllabuses to Dai Thinh A Junior High School in Ha Noi’s outskirts district of Me Linh. The donation was part of the first phase of Computers for Life, a programme that will run till September 30 and target students. The programme, as agreed in a memorandum of understanding between Intel Viet Nam and the Ministry of Information and Communications, aims to help students, low-income earners and people in remote and rural areas apply IT in everyday life. Mobifone offers free new services The Viet Nam Mobile Telecom Service (Mobifone) has initiated a missed call alert (MCA) service to some of its customers. As part of its programme, MobiFone plans to offer free 30-day MCA services, starting from May 13, to subscribers who as yet have not experienced these types of services. The MCA service will help subscribers keep in touch when users are out of reach. Mobifone currently has over 2 million subscribers using the service regularly. Meanwhile, Mobifone has completed the capacity upgrade of LiveInfo service. With the upgrade, users can easily register and use functions without limiting the number of users. OceanBank works with BTS Ocean Bank and Ha Noi Broadcasting and Television Service Company (BTS) have deployed service to collect charges of Ha Noi TV Cable. Ocean Bank and Investment Company of Information Technology (VTC Intercom) also announced a service to collect and electronically recharge for the on-line shopping website paygate.vtc.vn last week. With this service, customers using Ha Noi TV cable and on-line shoppers at Paygate.vtc.vn have a modern payment channel. FPT, Viettel launch e-wallet services FPT Telecom and Viettel Telecom have co-operated with VietUnion to officially launch the electronic wallet Payoo to their customers nationwide. FPT and Viettel subscribers can pay for their on-line services, including ADSL, and post-paid packages by any bank account connected with Payoo at the website www.paybill.com.vn. The new payment method will help subscribers save time, reduce fees and standardise management procedures for service operators. Trend Micro launches internet-safety project The global cloud security company Trend Micro has launched its Internet Safety for Kids&Families (ISKF) programme in Viet Nam. The programme aims to help parents, teachers and youth become more aware of internet safety issues so that young people can be safe and responsible online. Sponsored and supported by Trend Micro, VDC-Net2E and a number of other participating organisations, the programme will open opportunities to all eligible organisations to July 31. All approved applications will be given free 16-page colour educational booklets, mouse pads, CDs of Titanium Internet Security and ISKF T-shirts. These tools will be used to educate families, parents, kids, teachers and schools on using the internet safely and securely. Nation helps 14 businesses expand CMMi model The Ministry of Information and Communications plans to help 14 enterprises expand their quality management systems with the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMi) model this year, said Nguyen Trong Duong, director of IT department. The model will cost each enterprise US$35,000-50,000 depending on business scale and demand. The program is primarily designed for medium and large enterprises, Duong said at a seminar on Thursday. Enterprises joining the program will receive support via CMMi training courses, aside from consultancy and evaluation assistance with the total value of US$25,000. The ministry last year gave support to 16 IT enterprises. It expects to expand the program to around 15-20 more businesses next year, including those outside the IT industry. CMMi is a framework for appraising the process maturity of the U.S.’s software engineering sector. The system has three parts - service, development and acquisition. Vietnam Talent search begins in city Vietnam Talent Contest 2011 in Information Technology, Natural Science, and Medicine and Pharmacy was launched on May 26 in HCMC. The annual contest, organized by VNPT Group, Vietnam Television and Dan Tri online newspaper, has become a popular event for IT lovers and especially students. “Students are creative and they have the potential for future applications and enterprises. We know there are many products that have been successfully applied in practice and are of very high quality, so the contest will discover some talents as well as helping promote technology in the country,” Duong Anh Duc, vice president of University of Science HCMC, said. For IT, there are prizes for applicable products and widely used products. For each category, there is a first, second and third prize, worth VND100 million, VND50 million and VND30 million, respectively with consolation prizes worth VND5 million. In natural science, there will be six prizes, worth VND100 million each, for mathematics, mechanics, physics, chemistry, life sciences, earth and environment sciences. There are also great prizes on offer for the medicine and pharmacy section. The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology will set up a jury to assess entries and to present awards. The deadline for entries is on August 31. The awards ceremony will take place on November 20 and will be broadcasted live on VTV and online newspaper VnMedia.
