A two-year-old boy in the southern province of Dong Nai died from hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) on Tuesday, bringing the HFMD fatalities in the province to seven this year.

Nguyen Minh Vao of Long Thanh District was admitted to hospital a day earlier with high fever and respiratory disorder.

Doctor Nguyen Le Da Ha of Dong Nai Children’s Hospital said the boy contracted the HFMD two days before being taken to hospital and later had complications.

The hospital is providing treatment to around 210 HFMD patients.

Ha advised families of HFMD-infected children to bring them to the hospital quickly because youth patients can have serious complications.

Apart from Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City has so far reported 11 deaths from HFMD and Quang Ngai Province has reported three deaths.
