After successful talk with his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung discussed Vietnam-China border issues with President Hu Jintao in Beijing Wednesday.

President Jintao, who is also the Secretary General of China’s Communist Party, praised PM Dung’s visit as an important symbol of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and China.

He lauded Dung’s meetings with Jiabao.

Dung underlined that the Vietnamese Communist Party, government and people believed in the deep friendship Vietnam shared with China.

The two leaders agreed that the completion of all land border demarcations by the end of 2008 would be a landmark in the two countries’ relationship, which would contribute to peace, stability, friendship and long-term cooperation.

As for sea-related issues, the two sides pledged to observe agreements reached by senior leaders as well as the Code of Conduct within the East Sea.

The leaders agreed to maintain current negotiations on fundamental and long-term solutions to keep peace, stability and multifaceted cooperation in the region.

Dung and Wen Jiabao had previously witnessed the signing of agreements on border medical quarantines, credits for the Hanoi–Ha Dong railway project, the building of China-Vietnam trade and economic zone in the port city of Hai Phong and an agreement on strategic partnership between PetroVietnam and China National Oil Corporation.
