The joint communique said during the visit, the two sides reaffirmed the high level of importance they attach to the traditional cordial relations between the two nations and they expressed their wish for further exchange of delegations and contacts at different levels, and promotion of people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

The two sides agreed on the need to continue expanding their areas of cooperation, particularly promoting good relations in matter of the economy, commerce, science, technology, education and health; to encourage businesses from the two countries to seek suitable methods of cooperation such as investment and joint venture projects in the processing of farm produce, the production of medicine for humans and animals, and the mining and processing of natural resources, in order to increase the efficiency of the two countries’ cooperation, benefiting the people of both countries.

The Mongolian side welcomed investment by Vietnam in oil and mineral exploitation in Mongolia.

President Triet announced Vietnam’s decision to present 1,000 tonnes of rice to Mongolia and sell 20,000 tonnes of rice at interest-free price to the country. Vietnam also donated a number of ambulances to Mongolia in lieu of the building of a small hydro-power project the two countries had agreed upon.

The Mongolian side welcomed Vietnam’s assistance in the construction of the Ho Chi Minh cultural centre and President Ho Chi Minh’s statue at the senior secondary school No. 14, which is named after President Ho Chi Minh.

Vietnam affirmed its support for Mongolia’s bid to participate in a number of regional organisations and multilateral forums, including APEC.

The two sides expressed their mutual support regarding Mongolia’s participation in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) between 2010 and 2012 and Vietnam’s bid to join UNESCO’s Executive Council in the 2010-2013 term.

During the visit, President Triet invited President Nambaryn Enkhbayar and his wife to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time in the future.

On the morning of Oct. 31, before his departure for home, President Triet attended the Vietnam-Mongolia business forum in Ulaanbaatar.

Two-way trade between Vietnam and Mongolia stood at approximately 5.7 million USD in 2007. To date, more than 100 Vietnamese companies have invested in Mongolia. Since 1991, Vietnam has invested 22 million USD in Mongolia.

Speaking at the forum, President Triet and the Mongolian First Deputy Prime Minister Norovyn Altanhuyag stressed the important role played by business circles within the two countries in promoting friendly and cooperative ties between the nations.

President Triet requested that the two countries’ governments strive to create favourable mechanisms for business cooperation, as both countries still face a number of difficulties and, in order to effectively expand the scope of cooperation, their businesses will need assistance from their governments.

The Mongolian First Deputy PM pledged to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to operate in Mongolia. There is scope for the two sides to work together in the construction of oil refineries and the breeding of livestock, he said, adding that the Mongolian government hopes that Vietnamese businesses will go on to build factories in Mongolia in the future.

The Mongolian government is encouraging foreign investors to create economic and industrial zones and invest in mining, information technology and infrastructure. Meanwhile, Mongolia can export lamb, goat meat and other farm products, as well as petroleum to Vietnam.

At the forum, President Triet witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Talking with the press on the outcome of the visits and the prospect of relations between Vietnam and Russia and Mongolia, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem said that the visits achieved very important results. The next step is for the two sides to actively implement agreements, he said.

According to Deputy PM Khiem, Vietnamese ministries, localities and businesses should be dynamic in promoting the strategic partnership with Russia and friendly relations with Mongolia, seize new opportunities to develop Vietnam’s relations with the two countries to a new stage, contribute to the national economic development and construction in each country, as well as working for peace, stability and mutual development, both regionally and globally.
