Three US-funded projects were launched in central Vietnam Wednesday to help local people access health services and gain job-search skills, according to the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The East Meets West Foundation, Save the Children, and Vietnam Assistance for the Handicapped will implement the projects, which are funded by USAID, in Da Nang City.

The projects, worth US$1 million in total, include offering medical and social services for people with disabilities; corrective surgery; physical therapy and rehabilitation services; scholarships for children with disabilities; and promoting formal sector employment and self-employment for people with disabilities.

The assistance package for disabled persons is part of a larger $3 million package appropriated by the US Congress for Vietnam.

The remaining $2 million will be used for dioxin mitigation efforts in Da Nang.
