President Nguyen Minh Triet Friday said Vietnam needs help from international organizations in clearing landmines and bombs.

He was receiving Peter Goldmark of the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) and the Global Alliance for Mine Action (GAMA), and Gilonne d’ Origny, CEO of GAMA, who attended an international conference on climate change in Hanoi from October 13-15.

He said Vietnam had gone through several wars and unexploded ordnance left from them have not been defused, and they cause deaths and injuries to many people.

He deeply appreciated the VVAF’s aid and hoped the two organizations would continue their humanitarian initiatives.
