President Nguyen Minh Triet was also present at the festival to commemorate the 78th year of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (formerly the Viet Nam National Front).

Speakers at the festival reviewed the nation’s tradition of solidarity and assessed the implementation of a movement mobilising citizens to unite and build a more civilised lifestyle in residential areas, as well as the Day for the Poor. Individuals and organisations recognised for their achievements in the patriotic emulation movement were also commended.

Gifts were also presented to heroic mothers, the elderly, revolutionary veterans and poor households.

Speaking at the ceremony, Manh lauded the spirit of solidarity to build a more civilised life in residential areas and localities, the efforts to enhance the affection and gratitude among the people, care for those credited with nation-building and defence and the good examples in building happy families and bringing up children.

“Solidarity is a precious tradition of Viet Nam,” Manh said. With solidarity and all-out efforts, positive changes have been made in curbing inflation, stabilising the economy, ensuring social welfare, and achieving steady and sustainable growth, he added.

He urged officials at all levels to take part in the festival because it was a good chance for them to listen to the people’s ideas and wishes and to better understand the people’s strength.

Gathering in Ha Nam

A festival celebrating solidarity and achievements of citizens for the national good took place in Ha Nam Province’s Kim Bang District yesterday.

National Assembly chairman Nguyen Phu Trong praised citizens for their solidarity and achievements in building and developing their native land during his visit to the festival located in Dong Son Hamlet in the province. All citizens in the hamlet are Catholics.

This was the fifth year for the event, which drew participants from across the country and included activities such as song singing, musical performances, and an awards ceremony.

In the atmosphere of festivity to enhance solidarity between all citizens, Trong said the hamlet set a good example for the implementation of a movement to mobilise residents to build community and culture.

“Solidarity determines every success of Viet Nam revolution,” he said. “Unity makes every office and unit grow.” Therefore, the festival to enhance great solidarity among the people had profound meaning, Trong said.

Trong encouraged local residents to continue promoting patriotism, and to unite with non-Catholic citizens to make their native land more prosperous and civilised.

He also urged local residents to work together to increase productivity, diversify crops and animals, and develop, handicrafts and trade services.

Trong visited and brought gifts to families recognised for their contributions in enhancing great solidarity among the people.

As many as 90 per cent of households in the hamlet are striving to become famiIies of culture, according to criteria set forth by the Fatherland Front.
