VietNamNet Bridge – Ha Dong city and Son Tay city have petitioned to become Ha Dong district and Son Tay town under Hanoi, said Le Quang Nhue, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Council.

Ha Dong City may become Ha Dong District in the near future.

“This issue will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the Hanoi People’s Council,” Nhue said.

According to Nhue, Ha Dong and Son Tay will experience some changes in their names and administrative structures. If Ha Dong becomes a district, it will no longer have communes, but wards. However, the populations and areas of Ha Dong and Son Tay will be maintained to avoid disorder.

If the change is approved by the Hanoi People’s Council, it will be submitted to the National Assembly Standing Committee and the government for ratification.

Ha Dong town (16sq.km, 96,000 residents, 17 communes and wards) was upgraded to Ha Dong city in February 2007.

Similarly, Son Tay town (11,346ha, 181,800 residents, 15 communes and wards) became Son Tay city in 2007.
