Coal-rich province urged to focus on human resource training; Departing Chinese ambassador vows to boost ties in future; Prime Minister congratulates Slovenian counterpart; PM approves two UNDP-funded projects

President Triet also spoke highly of Vinacomin’s great leap from a corporation to a multi-sector group with revenues of trillions of VND.

President Nguyen Minh Triet has asked the coal-rich province of Quang Ninh and the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) to focus their attention on human resource training, to better ensure their future development.

The State leader made this call at a meeting with 61 representatives of Quang Ninh Province and Vinacomin in Hanoi on Nov. 14 to mark the 45th anniversary of the province’s establishment.

While praising the rapid developments in Quang Ninh Province over recent years, particularly in tourism, trade and service industries, President Triet asked the locality to make full use of its resources and strength for sustainable development.

He also spoke highly of Vinacomin’s great leap from a corporation to a multi-sector group with revenues of trillions of VND.

Although its coal output is estimated to be only 37-38 million tonnes this year due to the impact of the on-going global financial crisis, Vinacomin claims that it will post total revenues of 44 trillion VND (2.6 billion USD) and profits of 3.6 trillion VND (212 million USD).

The group has also implemented numerous investment projects in Laos and Cambodia.

Departing Chinese ambassador vows to boost ties in future

The outgoing Chinese Ambassador Hu Qianwen pledged to continue working to develop his country’s friendship with Vietnam even after he finishes his diplomatic term in the Southeast Asian country.

The departing ambassador made this pledge during his meeting with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi on November 14.

During their meeting, both host and guest expressed their deep satisfaction at the recent positive development of bilateral relations, citing their regular exchange of high-level visits as evidence of this.

Chairman Trong praised Hu Qianwen for his massive contributions to the progress made in bilateral relations between the two nations.

“Relations between the two countries have experienced significant, deep-rooted development in accordance with high-level commitments,” stressed the legislative leader.

Trong summed up the cordiality of the relationship between the two nations by describing it as one based on “friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive cooperation, lasting stability and future-oriented vision”.

Prime Minister congratulates Slovenian counterpart

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung sent a message of congratulations to the Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor on November 14.

The message was sent to mark Borut Pahor’s appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia.

PM approves two UNDP-funded projects

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Nov. 13 approved two projects funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with total capital of more than 3.6 million USD.

One project, to be financed by non-refundable aid of more than 1.1 million USD, will focus on policy analysis for formulating land policies in support of socio-economic development. It will be carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The other project is aimed at promoting the business community’s role in enhancing social responsibility. It has a total investment of 2.5 million USD and will be implemented by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
