Vietnam attaches importance to developing friendship and cooperation with African countries, including Morocco, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said Monday while meeting his Moroccan counterpart Abbas El Fassi in Hanoi.

It’s the first visit by a Moroccan prime minister since Vietnam and Morocco established diplomatic ties in 1961.

Fassi affirmed that Morocco also regarded developing friendly and cooperative relations with Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, as important.

The two leaders discussed how to make full use of the two countries’ potential while expanding bilateral cooperation in the economic, trade, investment, cultural and tourism sectors.

They also praised the results of the first meeting of the Vietnam-Morocco Joint Committee in March this year, and the signing of an agreement on double taxation avoidance, which, they said, would provide a favorable legal framework for increased bilateral trade cooperation.

The two PMs also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern.

They expressed their hope that the two countries will enhance information exchange, collaborate at international forums, such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, actively contribute to joint efforts for peace, stability, cooperation for development, for equal international relations and mutual benefits on the basis of respect for national sovereignty and independence and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.

Fassi, who ends his four-day visit to Vietnam tomorrow, Monday met with Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.
