Vietnam’s Presidnet Nguyen Minh Triet (R) is greeted by Peru’s President Alan Garcia

Vietnam and Peru need to boost economic cooperation to meet their potential said President Nguyen Minh Triet during a meeting with Peruvian President Alan Garcia Perez in Lima on November 21 (local time).

According to Perez, Vietnam and Peru have the potential to cooperate in major Vietnamese export fields such as oil and gas, electronics, cereals and cooking products.

He also spoke highly of Vietnam’s initiative in organizing the Vietnam-Peru Business Forum during Triet’s stay in Peru.

Triet invited his Peruvian counterpart to pay an official visit to Vietnam. Perez accepted the invitation, adding that he plans to make the visit next year with a business delegation in order to create an impetus for bilateral cooperation.

In the afternoon the same day, Triet attended the Vietnam-Peru Business Forum, which was jointly held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Lima Chamber of Commerce (LCC).

Speaking before representatives of 200 businesses from both countries, Triet said Vietnam offered favorable and open investment conditions to foreign investors.

“The estimated US$60 billion in foreign investment that has poured into the country so far in 2008 is evidence of the attractive environment,” he said.

Triet and Peruvian first Vice President Luis Giampietri Rojas also witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between VCCI and LCC.
