WB to loan Vietnam $150 million for rural power

The World Bank will give Vietnam credit of up to US$150 million to support its rural electricity network expansion under an agreement signed in Hanoi Tuesday.

According to the agreement, signed by representatives of the State Bank of Vietnam and the World Bank, the money will be used to improve and standardize medium voltage services.

The International Development Association, the World Bank’s concessional lending arm for low income countries, will contribute $150 million and the Australian Agency for International Development will provide $3 million towards the $206.3 million total cost of the project.
