VietNamNet BridgeDeputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong and a delegation from the National Committee for Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution have paid a working visit to the Hong Kong Health Department.

On December 23, they visited clinics for Methadone treatment such as Violet Peel, Eastern Street, and Shum Sui Po to learn about the procedures for Methadone treatment.

Since 1972, the security and health sectors in Hong Kong have co-ordinated to implement a methadone treatment programme for drug addicts with the aim of reducing the number of criminals.

So far, the number of methadone users has decreased remarkably from 25 percent down to 4 percent. In addition, the rate of HIVAIDS infection through blood transfusion has dropped below 0.3 percent.

Currently, the number of staff involved the Methadone treatment programme is around 200, including doctors and health workers.
