VietNamNet Bridge - The diplomatic service opened a conference this morning to assess impacts of changes in the world and the region on the country’s development as well as outline “specific and proper” policies on diplomatic work in the time to come.

Party General Secretary: The diplomatic work must join hand in raising Việt Nam’s images and position.

Presenting a speech to the meeting, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh underscored the service’s task to help maintain peace and stability in favor of economic development.

It should also propose proper policies to cope with complicated and unpredictable changes in the world and the region.

“It is necessary to raise high our country’s image and position in the world”, the Party chief emphasized.

It was reported that the meeting’s agenda includes discussions on impacts of the global and regional situations on Việt Nam; the realization of diplomatic policies adopted by the 10^th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, lessons and experience, so as to introduce new policies for the coming time.

The meeting will also clearly identify the role and tasks of the diplomatic service in the new context, with four major columns – political diplomacy, economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, and the overseas Vietnamese work and the protection of citizens.

A action program will be mapped out to concretize the Party’s guidelines for the diplomatic work into specific actions in order to promote national industrialization and modernization.
