Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked national diplomatic corps stationed overseas to contribute to all aspects of the nation in addition to performing its main duties regarding the improvement of foreign relations.

The government leader made the statement during his meeting in Hanoi Friday with 112 ambassadors and heads of overseas Vietnamese representative offices, who had returned to Vietnam to attend the 26th Diplomatic Conference, scheduled to run until December 10.

He called upon Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad to assist businesses in expanding their export markets, attracting more foreign investment and boosting cooperation in labor, tourism and education-training.

PM Dung assigned them with the task of monitoring and analyzing developments in their host countries so that the Vietnamese government can manage the country more effectively.

Dung stressed the importance of multilateral relations regarding the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC), the ASEAN-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the United Nations.

“Diplomatic corps should take the initiative in religious, democratic and human rights fronts and widely disseminate national policies in a timely fashion so that the world at large can fully understand Vietnam,” Dung said.

He also called on Vietnamese representative offices abroad to work closely with local authorities in an effort to protect their compatriots’ rights and contribute to friendship and cooperation with other countries in all fields, particularly economically, culturally and educationally.

Ambassadors to the US, Russia, Japan and the United Arab Emirates pledged to do their utmost to fulfill their tasks and contribute to the common cause of national development.
