President Nguyen Minh Triet receives representatives from the Vietnamese offices abroad on the occasion of the 26th Diplomatic Conference in Ha Noi.

This request was made by President Nguyen Minh Triet during a reception for Vietnamese ambassadors and heads of representative agencies in foreign countries, who are in Hanoi to attend the 26th conference of the diplomatic sector.

President Triet stressed that Vietnamese representative agencies abroad need to work closely with relevant sectors in order to protect the legitimate interests of overseas Vietnamese. They should also urge them to abide by the laws of their host nations, so as not to affect Vietnam’s reputation in the hearts and minds of its international friends.

The State leader had praise for the contributions made by the diplomatic sector to the nation’s achievements, not only in foreign affairs, but also in the fields of socio-economic development, security, national defence and culture.

“The diplomatic sector has contributed hugely to all aspects of the country’s success. Many countries have acknowledged Vietnam’s development potential and have expressed their desire to cooperate closely with Vietnam,” he said.

President Triet called on the sector to work to maintain this success and contribute even further, in order to improve Vietnam’s position and prestige in the international arena.

Key to the success is the creation and promotion of an image of a dynamic, reformed, safe and friendly Vietnam that is an attractive destination to both investors and tourists.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to the US, Le Cong Phung, pledged on behalf of the diplomats to make every effort to fulfill these tasks and develop the country’s external relations, reputation and image.
