The Health Insurance Law, Hi-tech Law, Road Traffic Law (revised) and Bio-diversity Law will go into effect on July 1, 2009 after the National Assembly voted to pass the laws at its session last month.

A representative of the President Office announced President Nguyen Minh Triet’s instruction to publicize the new laws at a press conference in Hanoi Friday.

Under the Road Traffic Law, individuals aged 21 or older are allowed to drive trucks weighing 3,500 kilograms or greater; those aged 24 or older are permitted to drive vehicles carrying 10-30 passengers; and those aged 27 or older can be approved to drive a vehicle carrying more than 30 passengers.

Under the Health Insurance Law, laborers must pay a monthly social insurance fee equivalent to up to 6 percent of their monthly salary, compared to the current 3 percent requirement.
