VietNamNet Bridge – The Prime Minister has signed a decision for the retirement, as of January 1, 2009, of the Vice Chief of the General Department of Police, Lieutenant General Nguyen Viet Thanh.

VietNamNet Bridge – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has signed a decision for the retirement, as of January 1, 2009, of the Vice Chief of the General Department of Police, Lieutenant General Nguyen Viet Thanh, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Office of the Central Steering Board for Corruption Fighting.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Viet Thanh was Director of the Police Agency of the southern province of Tien Giang Province. He was then appointed as Vice Chief of the General Department of Police, in charge of the southern region.

He was known as the chief of the investigative team of the Nam Cam mafia boss, in which 155 defendants were brought to court.

In late 2006, the Prime Minister and Chief of the Central Steering Board for Corruption Fighting appointed General Nguyen Viet Thanh as the Vice Chairman of the Office of the Central Steering Board for Corruption Fighting.
