Party leader receives Russian Duma delegation

VietNamNet BridgeParty General Secretary Nong Duc Manh met with a visiting Russian Duma delegation, led by its Vice Chairman Melnikov Ivan Ivanovich, in Hanoi on Dec. 16.

Melnikov, who is also the first vice chairman of the Russian Communist Party’s Central Committee, expressed his pleasure at Vietnam ’s achievements in its renovation cause that he had witnessed during his visit, and appreciated the country’s standing and prestige in the region and the world.

He informed the general secretary of the outcome of the 13th congress of the Russian Communist Party (RCB) and the recent situation in Russia .

Melnikov confirmed that the RCB has recognised the importance of continuously boosting their strategic partnership with Vietnam and will spare no efforts to improve the effectiveness of the relationship between the two countries in the interests of the two peoples.

General Secretary Nong Duc Manh regarded the Russian Duma delegation’s visit as a sign of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

He expressed his gratefulness for the valuable support of the former Soviet people, including the Russians, to Vietnam’s causes of national defense and national construction.

He also thanked the Russian legislative body, government and people for creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese nationals to live, work and study in Russia, thereby contributing to the strengthened cooperation between the two countries.

The general secretary said it is Vietnam’s policy to attach importance to traditional friendships, particularly with Russia, and expressed his hopes for closer ties between the two countries’ parliaments and the two communist parties to encourage further development of the Vietnamese-Russian strategic partnership.

The party leader wished the Russian people and communist party more success in improving their people’s living standards and building a prosperous Russia that would continue to play an important role in the regional and global arenas.
