VietNamNet BridgePrime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has praised the public security force for fulfilling tasks in 2008, helping maintain national security and social order and contributing to socio-economic development.

At a national conference in Ho Chi Minh City on December 22, Mr Dung said that the force forms the core in defeating the “peaceful evolution” strategy, combating crime and creating a stable environment for national development.

Mr Dung made an in-depth analysis of the domestic and global situation and said that Vietnam is facing a period of stagnation and decline as a consequence of the global economic crisis. He asked the force to join hands with the Government and people to prevent the decline, curb inflation, stabilise the macro economy, ensure social welfare and maintain a steady growth.

He said the public security sector should identify problem areas contributing to social issues, the subversive schemes of hostile forces and other risks to increase the efficiency of State management to maintain security and support economic development.

He commended the force for its effort to encourage the people to wear helmets, resulting in a sharp fall in the number of traffic accidents and the death toll.

The PM asked the force to better perform its role in combating and preventing crime and nip in the bud “peaceful evolution” schemes in order to protect national security targets.

He reminded the force to ensure national security and social order during the upcoming traditional lunar New Year festival, with more effort to be made to reduce traffic accidents, crack down on crime and prevent the smuggling and trading of firecrackers.
