Lookatvietnam - Central Anti-Corruption Committee deputy chairman Truong Vinh Trong has asked his staff to intensify their research of the material necessary to the promotion of essential anti-corruption regulations.

The deputy chairman, who is also a deputy prime minister, said specific rules for the prevention and prosecution of corruption were needed.

This was particularly true of laws intended to compliment and protect corruption fighters.

The deputy prime minister, who made his request while chairing the committee’s 2009 Action Plan conference in Ha Noi on Friday, also called for an intensive information campaign to make people more aware of the need to defeat corruption.

“The committee should understand specific allegations of corruption and offer advice as to the required response,” he said.

It also needed to ensure the anti-corruption campaign spread to all parts of society, he said.

The committee plans to have all relevant authorities and agencies agree to, and implement, the regulations necessary to help it guide the campaign against corruption and make it more effective this year.

The committee is also expected to accelerate the handling of existing incidents of corruption, especially the most complex.

The committee will foster co-operation with international organisations and change its methods to deal with corruption so as to ensure a greater impact.

Committee members helped with seven of eight major corruption trials in the Supreme People’s Court last year and were overseers of 15 high-profile corruption prosecutions.

The committee dealt with 3,800 of 3,900 complaints lodged with it.

Of these, 300 related to corruption.

The committee dispatched 18 ad hoc teams to deal with specific incidents of corruption last year.
