Deputy PM Khiem delivered this remark while welcoming Australian Minister for Immigration and Citizenship Chris Evans and his delegation to Hanoi on January 13.

This is Evans first visit to Vietnam, which is aimed at enhancing cooperation in matters related to immigration and combating human trafficking and organisations facilitating illegal migration.

Deputy PM Khiem also asked the Australian Ministry for Immigration and Citizenship to boost cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in the areas of personnel training and information exchange concerning migration control and border management.

He said with a large number of Vietnamese students studying in Australia, he hoped that the country will continue facilitating visas for local students seeking a high-quality overseas education.

Minister Evans related that he wants to boost Vietnam-Australia relations.

He informed the Vietnamese Deputy PM of his signing of a memorandum of understanding on the exchange of information regarding exit and entry with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security earlier the same day.

He stressed that Australia is expressly focused on stopping human trafficking and illegal immigration.

The same day, at a meeting with Minister Evans, Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh stressed that the Australian delegation’s visit to Vietnam is a boon to mutual understanding and cooperation between both sides, marking positive progress in cooperation between the security ministry and its Australian counterparts.

The two ministers agreed that positive developments had been achieved after visits between leaders from both sides.
