VietNamNet Bridge – The 9th conference of the Party Central Committee (PCC) has adopted a resolution outlining major tasks and solutions for successfully implementing the resolutions of the 10th National Party Congress.

According to Mr Manh, the national economy has maintained a relatively high growth rate, production capacity and the scale of GDP have constantly increased while infrastructure has improved significantly. Institutions of the socialist-oriented market economy have been gradually completed. All economic sectors have grown and flourished, and capital resources for development have increased considerably. Progress has been made in education and training, science and technology, health care, culture, information and protection of natural resources.

In addition, he said, external relations have been enhanced, lifting the country’s role and position in the international arena. The country has also consolidated national defence and security, as well as maintaining independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Mr Manh said the conference made an in-depth analysis of the current situation in Vietnam and the effects of the global economic crisis that will have on the country in 2009 and in the following years. It held that the overall task of Vietnam from now until the end of the 10^th Party tenure (2010) is to actively prevent economic slowdown and inflation, stabilise the macro economy, sustain a steady economic growth and ensure social welfare. The country should maintain national defence, security and social order, increase the leadership and combative capacity of Party organisations, the operational efficiency of the State apparatus, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and other socio-political organisations, and promote the combined strength of the great national unity bloc.

The Party leader stressed the need to accelerate administrative reform, increase the efficiency of the fight against corruption and wastefulness, renew personnel work and prepare line-ups for grassroots-level Party congresses and the 11^th National Party congress.

He called on the entire Party, army and people to unite to overcome difficulties and challenges and fulfil the tasks set for 2009.

While meeting in Hanoi from January 5-13, Party members also discussed a report reviewing two years of implementing a PCC resolution on combating corruption and wastefulness and another report summing up 10 years of implementing a cadre strategy in the process of national industrialisation and modernisation.
