President hopes to strengthen ties with Cambodia

| Lookatvietnam – Vietnam is determined to do everything necessary to strengthen its cooperation and friendship with Cambodia, President Nguyen Minh Triet said on Jan. 19.
The President confirmed that Vietnam’s Party, State and people always hope for a close and reliable relationship between the two countries. “Vietnam and Cambodia were side by side with each other in the past struggle for national independence, therefore it is necessary for today’s generation to continue this solidarity to ensure further development,” Triet said. He warmly welcomed the official visit to Vietnam by the Cambodian NA Chairman, describing the visit as contributing to the strengthening and development of the traditional solidarity and friendship between the two countries’ Parties, States, National Assemblies and people. President Triet congratulated the Cambodian people on their outstanding recent achievements, and expressed the happiness of the nation in witnessing Cambodia’s rapid development. On this occasion, President Triet extended his regards and wishes for good health to King Norodom Sihamoni, King Father Norodom Sihanouk, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath and other Cambodian leaders. The Cambodian NA Chairman thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for treating his delegation in a solemn and brotherly manner. He congratulated the Vietnamese people on their successes in national construction and development, and stated his belief that they would go on to record even greater achievements in those causes in the future. On behalf of the Cambodian people, Heng Samrin expressed a deep gratitude to the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their assistance to Cambodia in its struggle for national independence, construction and development. The Cambodian people have never forgotten the huge sacrifices made by Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in helping the country to escape from the genocidal Pol Pot regime, and their sacrifices will live forever in Cambodian history, the NA Chairman concluded.
