| Lookatvietnam - Vietnamese leaders visited offices, cities and provinces in the run up to Tet (Lunar New Year).
President Nguyen Minh Triet stopped off at the Capital City’s High Command and the Ministry of Public Security’s High Command of Guards. At the Capital City’s High Command, the President said he appreciated the city’s armed forces in helping to protect political security, social stability and contribute to the development of Ha Noi and the country. He said Ha Noi was expanded last year, so the city’s armed forces had very important tasks. He asked members of the Command to be vigilant and ready to fight, and to co-ordinate with the public security force and other sectors to protect the country’s security. He also asked the Command to help people eradicate hunger and reduce poverty, and care for prioritised families. Visiting the Ministry of Public Security’s High Command of Guards, Triet said the guards always acted responsibly and firmly co-ordinated with other forces to protect the Party and State leaders, international guests, and key offices. Many international leaders (who had visited Viet Nam) had acknowledged how safe the country was. He asked the forces to continue to renew activities to be ready to deal with any unexpected situations. Yesterday, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung visited Ha Noi’s public security force. He said the force had made great contributions to achievements that the city’s Party Committee, government and people gained last year. Especially, in 2008, though the city was expanded, criminal cases reduced by more than 8 per cent compared to 2007. He asked the force to be ready to destroy hostile forces’ plots against the Party and the State. Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong visited the office run by the Party and State which receives citizens’ complaints and accusations. Trong said he appreciated the staff for effectively solving people’s complaints and petitions last year. Doing their work effectively helped stabilise security and social order, and fight corruption and waste, he said. He asked the staff to focus on solving each case completely, to help raise citizens’ responsibility to society. Trong also asked the staff to timely report problems to the relevant sectors so that laws and policies could be revised quickly. Yesterday, Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Secretariat visited the central province of Thanh Hoa’s Party Committee, authorities and people to wish them a happy new year. He said the province had gained many achievements in the past few years, and asked the province to focus on developing Nghi Son Economic Area. He also visited some local Vietnamese Heroic Mothers. Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan yesterday visited the central province of Quang Binh. She visited Regiment 996 based in Dong Hoi Town, and visited the families of some local war invalids and revolutionaries. Doan presented gifts worth VND25 million to poor families and underprivileged families. The same day, General Le Hong Anh, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security visited Party Committee and people of the southernmost province of Ca Mau. He praised provincial authorities for helping the poor to enjoy Tet, with more than 50,000 gifts given to them, at a total cost of VND17 billion (US$971,428). Ha Thi Khiet, Party Secretary and head of the Party Central Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Commission, visited the Mass Mobilisation Commission under HCM City’s Party Committee. Khiet said she appreciated the city’s achievements in mass mobilisation last year. Phung Quoc Hien, member of the Party Central Committee and head of the National Assembly’s Finance and Budget Committee visited the Steering Committee for North-western Region and the northern province of Yen Bai.
