The Republic of Korea recognizes the Vietnamese economy’s medium- and long-term prospects and will continue investment projects this year despite the global economic slump, the RoK Ambassador said Wednesday.

Speaking to local reporters in Hanoi Tuesday, RoK Ambassador to Vietnam Im Hong Jae said Vietnam is now its second-largest trading partner, just behind Singapore, with two-way trade turnover reaching US$10 billion, the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper said.

RoK’s 2,000 investment projects in Vietnam are more than any other country has here. The projects are worth total US$16.5 billion.

Nearly 11,000 RoK enterprises do business in Vietnam, accounting for 21 percent of the total number of foreign-owned enterprises operational in the Southeast Asian country. Some 35,000 Vietnamese laborers are employed at RoK companies here.
