Lookatvietnam - A Vietnamese representative to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has voiced the country’s support for the UN’s central role in coordinating international development assistance to Nepal.

Ambassador Bui The Giang delivered the national viewpoint whilst addressing the UNSC’s consultancy session regarding the three-month situation in Nepal in New York on January 16.

The diplomat said that Vietnam supports an extension of the current mandate of UNMIN by another six months from January 23, 2009 for fulfilling activities it has not yet completed.

While welcoming achievements the Nepalese people has recorded in the peace process in the past year, Ambassador Giang called on the concerned parties to promote cooperation and dialogues to narrow their existing differences.

On the day, Ambassador Giang addressed the UNSC consultancy meeting on the situation in the Great Lake ( Africa ), stressing the necessity to formulate a comprehensive solution to conflicts in the area.

He expressed concerns about LRA insurgents’ killing of a number of innocent civilians and kidnapping of children and women and condemned those inhuman deeds.

The LRA insurgents need to stop using violence to return to the peace process and sign with the Ugandan Government a forever peace agreement (FPA), the Vietnamese diplomat said
