VN considers human rights promotion an important factor for development

Lookatvietnam - The Communist Party of Vietnam’s and the State’s consistent policy has been to make human rights a central position in its economic and social policies, and to always consider the protection and promotion of human rights as an important factor for sustainable development and ensuring national industrialization and modernization.

This was affirmed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem, Head of the Human Rights Steering Committee during a Central Governmental year-end meeting on human rights on January 21st.

Over the past several years, many achievements have been made in the aread of the protection of human rights. The acceleration of socio-economic and social development, together with religious and nationalities policies has lead to be human rights in Vietnam. In addition, social welfare has also been effectively carried out over the past several years.

And the Government has provided VND 19.8 trillion to social welfare beneficiaries through 12 preferential credit programs for the poor, ethnic minority families, social welfare beneficiaries’ families and other disadvantaged families.

Moreover, 46 provinces nationwide now have universal secondary education.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that in 2009, all government ministries and agencies must complete the legal framework to better implement the Party and State’s policies on human rights, especially those policies relating to religion, nationalities and the rights of vulnerable groups of people.

He asked for a general project on the protection and struggle for human rights, active participation in international forums, especially activities of the United Nations human rights council.
