| Lookatvietnam – Vietnam has requested strict punishment for a group of policemen in the Czech city of Brno who brutally interrogated a Vietnamese national, resulting in his death.
“We are very saddened to hear that Hoang Son Lam, a Vietnamese national in the Czech Republic, died as a result of the abuse of power and beating by a number of police officers in Brno . We would like to extend our profound condolences to the family and relatives of Hoang Son Lam,” Dung said. “Vietnam is deeply concerned about this serious matter and demands that the Czech Republic imposes strict punishments on the criminals in line with its law and properly compensates the family of Hoang Son Lam,” he stressed. The spokesman said that, immediately after learning of the matter, the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic sent out a diplomatic note regarding the issue to the Ministry of the Interior, the Foreign Ministry, and other responsible agencies in the Czech Republic . The Vietnamese ambassador to the Czech Republic met with the Director of the Police’s Immigration Department under the Czech Ministry of the Interior to express his deep concern and lodge an official protest regarding the actions of the police in this matter. He also asked the Czech authorities to conduct a rapid investigation and swiftly bring the offenders to trial. The Director of the Police’s Immigration Department under the Czech Ministry of the Interior apologised over the matter and vowed to conduct a rapid investigation so as to put the perpetrators behind bars as soon as possible, said Dung, adding that the Czech Procuracy had commenced proceedings in the case to prosecute the police officers. The Vietnamese embassy has been working alongside the association of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic to assist the family of Lam and arrange funeral services for him. The embassy reported that the Procuracy of Brno city has prosecuted one of the policemen involved in the case. The police officer, who is suspected of stabbing Lam, has been charged with bodily harm, resulting in death and other charges pertaining to an abuse of power. Two of his colleagues also face standing trial on charges of failing to act to prevent their colleague from stabbing the detainee. (Source: VNA) |
