The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) held a conference on February 27 to collect opinions from universities and colleges on the 14th draft of the Vietnam educational development strategy for the 2009 – 2020 period.

The MoET affirmed that the government will annually allocate 20 percent of the State budget for the educational sector in the 2009-2020 period and try to raise the level to 21 percent for remote and disadvantaged areas as of 2015.

According to the draft, from now until 2020, all educational centres will be audited and the audit results will be announced publicly. MoET Minister Banh Tien Long said that the audit will help the ministry closely monitor the use of the state budget, and people’s financial contributions to the educational centres in operation.

The education sector will also try to achieve the goal of 450 students per 10,000 people and to have 40 percent of the country’s total students enrolled at non-public universities by 2020.
