The Japanese government plans to resume official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, Japan’s JIJI Press News reported on Tuesday, citing Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Japanese news website reported Japan will resume granting loans in its national currency (Yen) to Vietnam after new anticorruption measures were agreed by the two countries.

Under the agreement, Vietnam will establish a third agency to oversee the implementation of Japanese ODA projects in the country.

ODA-related corruption has been in the spotlight recently, following a scandal last August over bribes in a Japanese ODA project in Vietnam.
