VietNamNet Bridge - The founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on February 3, 1930 was of great historical significance, marking a turning point in the course of the Vietnamese revolution, putting an end to the political crisis and laying a firm foundation for gathering and uniting all ethnic groups across the country, said a Party Politburo member.

Pham Quang Nghi, Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, made the remarks at a meeting in Hanoi on February 2 to mark the 79th anniversary of the CPV. The event was attended by top leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government and Fatherland Front.

Mr Nghi said that the coming into being of the CPV embodied the combined forces of Marxist-Leninism, workers and patriotic movements, inextricably intertwined with the effort of Nguyen Ai Quoc later known as Ho Chi Minh.

He said the CPV led the entire nation to successfully carry out the August 1945 Revolution, culminating in the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam – the first democratic state in Southeast Asia. Later, it led the Vietnamese people to win the wars of resistance against French colonialists and American imperialists and build socialism across the country.

“We are proud of our glorious party – the Communist Party of Vietnam - which stays true to its revolutionary and scientific nature, is loyal to the working class and national interests, stands firm in the face of challenges and provides clear-sighted leadership,” said Mr Nghi.

He called on Vietnamese people to follow President Ho’s Testament, which says, “Our Party is the ruling party. Each Party member and cadre must be deeply imbued with revolutionary morality, show industry, thrift, integrity, uprightness, total dedication to the public interest and complete selflessness. Our Party should preserve its absolute purity and prove worthy of its role as the leader and very loyal servant of the people.”

Mr Nghi affirmed that in 2009, the capital city will continue to join hands with other cities and provinces to successfully implement the resolutions adopted at the 10th National Party Congress, and speed up the implementation of key projects for its millennium anniversary in 2010.

The expanded city strives to achieve a GDP growth rate of 9.5-10 percent, prevent a period of economic stagnation and decline, accelerate administrative reform, complete its organisational structure, and pay attention to Party building and rectification.

At the ceremony, representatives of revolutionary veterans and youth expressed their trust in the Party and firm resolve to devote themselves to the process of building a civilised and prosperous capital.
