Those who’ve lost their jobs legally and paid insurance premiums for at least 12 months will be the beneficiaries of the unemployment insurance scheme that has taken effect this year, a government official said.

“This means those who deliberately dropped out of a job without any agreement with their employer will not be paid the unemployment insurance,” MoLISA Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hoa told Thanh Nien in an interview Tuesday.

He also said the beneficiaries would only be paid insurance for the regulated duration, depending on how long they’d paid their premiums earlier, ranging between three and 12 months, even if they fail to find new jobs after that period.

However, Hoa said employment agencies are expected to strengthen efforts to find jobs for workers because all related fees will be paid by social insurance authorities.

According to the new rules, unemployment compensation will be cut for those who refuse twice to apply for jobs introduced by employment agencies. However, Hoa said this rule wouldn’t count in cases when the services introduced incompatible jobs.

He also said concerned authorities will build stronger information networks to avoid the possibility of workers continuing to receive compensation even after they find new jobs.
