To Huy Rua, deputy head of the central steering board of the campaign, said at a national conference in Hanoi on February 14 that since the campaign was launched by the Politburo two years ago, it has helped promote a healthy lifestyle and strengthen standards of morality among cadres, Party members and the population in general.

“Party organisations have been well aware of the goal, requirement and need to carry out the campaign in order to build the Party and the moral foundation of the society,” said Mr Rua, who is also head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information Dissemination and Education.

“The campaign has made a practical contribution to the fulfilment of political and socio-economic tasks assigned to sectors, agencies and localities over the past two years, particularly in the fields of cultural ideology, national defence and security as well as Party building work.”

According to Mr Rua, it has brought about dramatic changes in the thinking and action of cadres and Party members and gradually slowed down political and moral degradation of a segment of cadres and Party members. Violations of the law by cadres, Party members and State employees have fallen significantly, and Party organisations have paid more attention to detecting, preventing and dealing with wrongdoings.

However, he also pointed out weaknesses in carrying out the campaign, saying it was not efficient and practical in a number of sectors, agencies and localities.

Over the next three years, he said the campaign will continue to focus on accelerating administrative reform, combating corruption and preventing wastefulness. President Ho’s moral examples will be included in the curricula of the national education system as well as political schools. In addition, more meetings will be held to exchange experiences and honour exemplary role models of the campaign.
