Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will pay an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from February 16-19 to boost commercial and trade ties, Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung said on Thursday.

The four-day visit at the invitation of UAE Vice President and PM Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktum will be the first to UAE by a Vietnamese government leader since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1993, Dung said.

The two leaders will discuss bilateral cooperation in labor export, energy, finance and agriculture, and other fields.

During the visit, the two sides will sign documents that will lay the legal foundation for further consolidation of bilateral ties, the government website said.

Measures to increase mutual understanding and cooperation on regional and international forums will also be discussed during the visit, which is a step to cement and deepen the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and UAE.

PM Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktum had visited Vietnam in September 2007.

Vietnam’s main exports to the UAE include cookingstuff, furniture, coffee, tea, spices, tobacco, fruits, electrical equipment and machinery and the country imports oil seeds, plants and plastics.
