State President: Vietnam welcomes Russian investment

LookAtVietnam – Vietnam considers Russia its strategic partner and long-standing faithful friend and welcomes Russian investors who wish to conduct business in the country, said President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Triet made these remarks while receiving Prof. Dr. Khristo Takhchidi, General Director of the Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Complex (FEMC) and President of the Russian Ophthalmologists’ Association, in Hanoi on Feb. 12 during his visit to Vietnam to attend the opening ceremony of the Vietnam-Russia International Ophthalmology Hospital (VRIOH).

The hospital is a joint project between the VRIOH Joint Stock Company and the FEMC, established as part of an agreement on public healthcare cooperation which was passed during President Triet’s visit to Russia in October last year.

President Triet applauded the FEMC’s investment in the eye hospital in Hanoi, saying that the project will help to raise Russia’s prestige in the field of ophthalmology.

He expressed his hope that this would act as a springboard to catapult the cooperation enjoyed by Vietnam and Russia to a whole new level of development, as previously agreed by the two countries’ leaders.

Prof. Takhchidi said that the VRIOH is not only the FEMC’s inaugural project in Vietnam, but is also the first cooperation project between the two nations in the social and humanities sector in 20 years.

The FEMC plans to open its second eye hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, he said, adding that the complex’s ultimate goal is to invest in four eye hospital projects across Vietnam.

These projects aim to provide hi-tech ophthalmologic healthcare services for local residents as well as providing them with the opportunity to receive treatment in Russia, he said.
