Vietnam hopes to receive further Japanese support for patients with cleft palates, said Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan while receiving Yukihisa Hirano, chairman of the Japanese Cleft Palate Association, in Hanoi on February 27.

Ms Doan appreciated the association’s effective cooperation programmes in Vietnam, especially its support of micro financial activities and the grant of capital to poor patients.

Further support from the association will help enhance the two countries’ friendly relations, said Ms Doan.

Since 1992, more than 3,000 patients with cleft palates in the provinces of Ninh Binh, Ben Tre and Ba Ria-Vung Tau have received free operations offered by the association.

Over the past three years, the association has also developed a cancer prevention project for Vietnamese women.
